Improved?

So the genetic changes have cured Bean but has she been improved? Did she need improving? It does not sound like it to me.

We learn more about Spaz's special bond with Bean in todays chapters (26 & 27) - yet I think there is more for us to learn about it. Maybe there is even more for Spaz to learn. One sequence makes it clear how smart Bean is and causes Jin to rethink one of the proov stereotypes about normals. What happened?

In an earlier chapter Lanaya pondered if there was something special about Spaz because the latch bosses all knew who he was and seemed to be protecting him. Now we have Bean that would seem to be much smarter then her parents and clearly has something very special about her. What is going on here?

How do you think the Proovs of Eden will respond when they hear Bree's news?

There must be something special about both Bean and Spaz but am having a hard time trying to predict what it is.

Some possibilities:
- They are actually brother and sister (Bean was not Charlie’s child).
- They have some ‘proov’ connection that they do not know about but the Latch Bosses do.
- They have a famous father or mother.

None of those possibilities make total sense to me. I think I am going to kick myself when I find out what the real story.

I do not think Bean needs to be improved. Look at what she did in chess. Jin has played chess probably hundreds of times, and Bean just started, and got a tie! If she can do that, she doesn’t need improving.

That also made Jin think twice about one of the stereotypes Proov’s made. They think that Normals can’t be smarter than Proov’s. Amazing how bean thinks, isn’t it? It was kind of cool how she thought that rats were people, considering charlie always called people rats.

I do not know why Bean is so smart. It wouldn’t appear that she was too special at first, but she seems extremely special now! I think that something about her strange thoughts (like imagining the whole world blue) are the cause. But im not sure.

I think there will be a huge argument about her decision to adopt little face. If normals are forbidden, but she wants one, do the math. Law+Break=Anger, and Anger=Protests. That’s the math of broken laws.

Could it be possible that Bean is actually a "proov" who was imperfect and therefore given away to the normals? Look at the qualities that she shares with proovs. She's really smart, she sees in colors in a world where everything is gray and she was a foundling adopted by her normal parents. If she's not a proov, then she's perhaps proof that genetic improvements wil happen in the population of normals as well and that willl make the place of the proovs as controllers of society very precarious. You cannot always control people who have the same capabilities as you. If the normals are no threat to the proovs, why do they send the probes to diminish their lives and why do they run a closed society? Is there something for the proovs to fear from the normals?
