Before moving on to the next chapters - when we watched the first 8 minutes of the movie yesterday, I was surprised by how the characters looked. They were different then the image that had formed in my mind. (Could that be a reason that the Author did not include any pictures in a book about pictures? She recognized that your mind could create more meaningful images then she could ‘give’ you?)
Write a brief description of each of the main characters (Hollis, Josie, Steven, Old Man, Izzy.) Use evidence from the text to support your description when possible.

I think that Hollis is about 4 feet tall, and has uncombed, blonde hair. She wears blue jeans, and a green t-shirt.
I imagine that Steven has brown hair. He wears a red shirt and a teal pair of shorts. He chews bubble gum most of the time.
Josey has light yellow, somewhat pale, hair, cut short. She wears a white dress with a red pattern on the bottom. She always wears a sun cap outside.
The Old Man Is easy for me to imagine. He is about a foot taller than Steven, and wears a brown bowlers cap. He has a thin black mustache, and wears a casual yet formal outfit that’s tan.
It was also fairly easy to imagine Izzy. She is a bit taller than the Old Man. She wears an extremely light pink dress. She has long, brown hair.
Hollis Woods
The actress in the movie seemed too plain to me. The actress would be lost in a room of kids. I think Hollis would stand out a bit. The book tells us most of what we know about her looks in Chapter 3 when she tries on the hat. She has a scar (unclear where, I pictured forehead), freckles on her cheeks, and sandy colored unruly hair. If it normally is ‘poked out in all directions’ it cannot be too long. I see her average to small in height – someone with more power then it would appear. I see her having a tom boy look that mask a very pretty girl.
Josie Cahill
I picture someone one older (then in the movie) with red hair and ‘movie star beautiful’. I thought I read about the hair color in the text but could not find a reference. She dresses in a flamboyant, bohemian (look it up) fashion.
Steven Regan
Tall and Skinny (from the text) with eyes like his father and short brown hair.
Old Man Regan
The book says he has cinnamon eyes, with a grey & black beard. My impression is that he is thin and tall like his son.
Izzy Regan
We have not received much information about how she looks. I see long curly hair, but that might be just because Izzy rhymes with frizzy. I see her plain looking in contrast with Josie’s beauty.
