Furry Fury?

Lotti Getts’ latch is an interesting contrast to the others. What is the key difference between this latch and Billy Bismo and Mongo’s latches? Why do you think that Lotti has made that choice?

Lotti Getts does not seem intimidated by Lanaya at all. Instead she sets the terms that will allow Spaz to visit his sister. What do they need to do?

Lanaya feels very secure wherever they go because she does not think any normal would do anything to a proov. Do you think she is right?

When I first read the Chapter 17 cliffhanger I thought they were being checked out by ‘furies’ – as in a furry animal. I believe they are properly called ‘furies’ – as in ‘the storm rolled through in a fury’ or the root of furious. Which do you think is correct?

I think there are plenty of differences between the two groups, but I think there is one big difference between the groups: Probes. It seems to be that while Lotti says probes are illegal, look back at the time Spaz asked for permission. Billy Bizmo was probing a film of Eden! I think that if they were illegal in the latch Spaz was in, Billy Bizmo would be very Hippocratic.

In order for Spaz to see his sister again, he must catch the probe runner. We recently learned that runners both send messages, and can bring illegal items into latches. Lanaya suggested that they look where you would go to buy probes. The market under the old railroad tracks.

I disagree with Lanaya’s though that no normal would touch a Proov. What about when rescuing Lanaya? They grabbed her arm to bring her out of the mob. After that, I would forget that thought.

I think that furies, as in furious, must be correct. I think that fury sounds more intimidating than furries. And, a group of furries is a group of people that dress up like cats. Not intimidating at all.

Anyone besides me think that Billy and Lotti have a history? She's got those razors on her fingernails and he's got (p.28) "pale scars on his neck and jaw where somebody tried to kill him."
I agree that probes are the big difference between the latches but does anyone seem better off in their latch than the others are in theirs? No one is safe or has food or jobs or good housing, so who really benefits if probes are allowed or not?
Lanaya is "whistling down the wind" if she thinks that normals won't hurt a proov. When the normals are desparate enough they'll attack anything. Why else would she need a takvee and armed guards?
Lotti reminds me of the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. Do any other characters remind you of those from the story?
