Bleek Outlook?

In Chapter 18 we learn the source of the ‘Probes’. Were you surprised to hear where they were coming from? This source could be smuggling probes only for the money or there could be other reasons. Can you think of a reason other then money that they would provide Probes?

As Spaz gets close to his house in Chapter 19 he says, “there’s nothing so bad it can’t get worse.” What is the basis for this comment and what is he concerned about?

The most intriguing news to me in these Chapters was that Lanaya thinks there must be something special about Spaz. What is her evidence? Any guesses regarding how he is special?

(Don’t be a ‘googan’ – p 132 -, answer all the questions.)

I was not surprised to learn that the Probes came from Eden. I am wondering what benefit the proovs get from having the regulars around at all, but if they do want them then they want the regulars to be easy to control. They do not want them doing crazy things like trying to figure out a way to get across the mine field. The probes are a way to control them by getting them to focus on 'probing' rather then other activities that might endanger Eden.

I was surprised also by Lanaya's comment about Spaz being special but I should not have been. While reading the book I have wondered - How big are these latches? How can all the latch bosses have heard of Spaz?

How could be special. Originally I was thinking he was the child of a great leader but if that were the case then the other latch bosses would find him a threat and they would probably 'cancel' him at the first opportunity.

I am thinking now that he must be some link to the 'proov' world.

(At the risk of being a googan, I am skipping the questions in the secnd paragraph.)

I was not surprised that all probes came from Eden. As you were told, look at the condition of all the latches. Dirty, little power, many cancellations, they couldn’t ever produce 1 probe, let alone thousands of them. As for the question of Eden providing probes, I think that is the only reason they do make them. I can’t think of one other answer.

When Spaz says “there’s nothing so bad it can’t get worse”, he is talking about not coming to see bean dead, but seeing her die. I don’t blame him, truthfully. But then again, I would probably get used to it, considering the (mentioned) game “hide or cancel”. I definitely would not play that.

I think there is something special about Spaz. Look at who new his name. Vida Bleek, Billy Bizmo, Lotti, Its strange. There must be something way beyond the ordinary, besides his Epilepsy. I think that the Epilepsy stops him from doing something besides probing. But what could that be?

Also, if a googan is someone whos goofy, Im a googan!

Is your character related to your genetics? In other words, can one really be "bad to the bone?" If you cannot, I can understand how Eden makes and supplies probes to the latches. If however, your character is connected innately to your physical makeup, improved individuals should never do something that would result in harm to others-they should know better! As for Spaz being special, he does have memory that others susceptible to the probesdo not have, but even he lacks the knowledge to use his memory. Ryter is just getting him to understand the power of memory and knowledge so is knowledge going to be power?
