Back to the Stacks

It must have been quite a shock to the system for Spaz, Bean, and Ryter as they were immediately taken from Eden and returned to the latches. Spaz and Bean did not even have time for proper goodbyes.

Spaz (and I) was shocked when Ryter seemed happy to get back to his cubicle in the stacks. Why is he not as upset as Spaz? Is he zoomed?

Ryter has a sense of foreboding about his own future but he is not fearful for Spaz. He tells Spaz that he has nothing to fear from Billy Bizmo but he does not say why. Did you figure out the same thing that Ryter did?

As soon as they hear the Jetbikes, Ryter know that they are coming for him. What event has gotten people in the latch so angry? How would you describe Ryter's demeanor as the mob gets ready to 'wheel' him?

Then Billy Bizmo drops the bombshell. How do you think Spaz will react? Were you surprised?

The most important question to me in these chapters is: Why is Ryter so calm?
He knows that things are looking bad for him yet he seems accepting of his fate. Why?
He knows that Spaz is safe and therefore knows that there will be someone left that has not forgotten about him and what he was about. He is 'passing the torch' to Spaz and now knows Spaz is ready to take it.

As for Spaz's daddy - I should have figured that out a while ago but I guess the geez beat me to the secret. It explains alot - though leaves me with some questions about Bean. Clearly she is not Spaz's sister. Hmmmmm....

I think the reason that Wryter isnt alarmed is that he has known that this would happen, and the book is still alive. He knows that Spaz will have it in his memory forever, therefore making the burned book safe.

I did not suspect that Spaz was Billy’s son, especially after holding a splat gun to Spaz’s nose. So it was a huge surprise to me. That must be the reason that he was kicked out of the latches, because they didn’t want to harm a latch boss’s son.

The reason that all the people are angry is that all probes have been shut off. Billy said that you can stick the needle into your head, but nothing will happen. All the people are blaming them for it, because they left the latch.

I think Spaz will freak out. Imagine this: you have no clue who your father is, and you find out that a person who regularly kills people is him. That would sure make me freak out! But I don’t know how Billy would react if he freaked out.
