Things imProov?

The Latches seem to be getting worse with each one that Spaz arrives at. In Chapter 14 they help the do-gooder proov Lanaya, but she does not seem convinced that they actually saved her life. Why does she beleive that? What does Spaz think? What do you think?

Lanaya gives up a brief description of how the Urb is laid out. Where is Eden? What is keeping the normals out? (What is 'normal' anyway? I have yet to see too much behavior that I would consider 'normal'. )

I like Ryter more with each chapter. In 15 he 'probes' Lanaya with questions that clearly irritate her. Yet, he does not stop. I think he already has a pretty good idea of the answers to the questions he asks. Why does he keep asking them?

Another cliff hanger! Lotti Getts? Do you think Lotti will get whatever she wants?

I asked Ben to think about what questions he would ask and what observations he would make to students after reading Chapters 14 & 15 (and before reading this chapters posts).

He had a few questions:
Why was the latch on fire?
Why did Ryter risk his life for Lanaya?
What was Lanayas reaction to Little Face?

Doesn't it seem that Ryter risked his life for Lanaya because as the chapter title says, "Fair maidens must be rescued?" His actions support his whole code of being, the idea of the quest and great adventures. It would be entirely out of character for him not to have helped her, and so much less exciting. Imagine a mob of people trying to use you as their food source! What was also in character but less admirable was Lanaya's inability to acknowledge the great favor Ryter had given her. He made it clear it wasn't her faulty when he said superiority had been inbred in her (.104) but he also acknowledges her innate goodness when on the same page Ryter tells Lanaya that she has a good heart and that goodness cannot be engineered like a perfect nose.
The moment that I really like was when Ryter returns to the takvee after distracting the mob and Spaz clearly values greatly what he did. I like to think that he is beginning to appreciate Ryter but it may only be because he saved Lanya, with whom Spaz is smitten.
