Chapter 32 gets us to the end of Part 2 so we will stop there today. Only 2 Pages! (You do not even have to turn the page!)
Moose’s Mom and Dad have a talk when she returns home from her work. His dad seems to have been stung a bit by Moose’s comment “Why do you always do what Mom tells you? “ (p 172) and he reacts by being firm with Moose’s mom.
Moose cannot hear all of the conversation but at one point says, “I think about what my dad said. I think so hard it makes my head ache.” His father had said a number of things and I was not sure which part Moose was referring to. What did his father say that made him think so hard?

I vote for "Moose needs you too." Part of the problem that Moose and his mother have is that Moose is treated like another caregiver to Natalie, instead of being treated like a child, the youngest one in the family. He doesn't have a regular relationship with his mother where she is watching out for and monitoring his activities, she is always focused on how Moose will monitor his sister. Moose has fallen into the habit of protecting his mother from disappointment, and shielding Natalie from exposure, all while discovering that Nat is a more normal girl than anyone thought. It must be hard to be the first one to have figured that out.
My response is a little different. “You two never try to understand each other” certainly gave Moose something to think about. “Little things become big things with you and moose”. It is always easier to see the mistakes others are making. Moose seemed to have a very good understanding of what was going on with his mother. He probably had less of an understanding of the part he was playing. Hearing his father say that (the first part) probably was a ‘stop and think’ moment for him.
